Discover Cahal Pech, one of the oldest known Maya sites in Belize. Its name is commonly translated as “Place of the Ticks,” and the site sits high on a hill overlooking the charming town of San Ignacio, offering beautiful views of the surrounding river valley and Maya Mountains.

Cahal Pech was occupied for more than a thousand years, with evidence of settlement dating back to approximately 900 BC. The site later developed into an important Maya center and includes 34 structures arranged around seven plazas, along with temples, residential buildings, two ball courts, stelae, and an altar.
