Enjoy a relaxing and fascinating journey into Barton Creek Cave, one of Belize’s unique Maya archaeological sites. The scenic drive from San Ignacio takes approximately one hour, passing through picturesque countryside and traditional Maya communities along the way.

At Barton Creek, board your canoe and gently paddle into the cave as your guide leads you through an impressive underground world filled with beautiful stalactites, stalagmites, and massive limestone formations.

The cave also holds significant archaeological importance. Evidence of ancient Maya activity has been discovered on several ledges within the cave, including pottery dating from the Early Classic (AD 200–600) through the Late Classic Period (AD 600–900). Archaeologists have also discovered human remains within the cave, providing insight into its ceremonial significance to the ancient Maya.
