Journey into the heart of the Belizean rainforest to explore Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM), one of Belize’s most extraordinary archaeological cave experiences.

Your adventure begins with a hike through the tropical jungle, including several river crossings, before reaching the entrance of the cave. To enter, you'll complete a short swim of approximately 15 feet before beginning your journey into what the ancient Maya considered “Xibalba” — the underworld.

Equipped with a helmet and headlamp, you'll follow your specially trained guide as you swim, wade, climb, and carefully navigate through the cave's impressive chambers and passageways.

Deeper inside, the adventure becomes an incredible journey into ancient Maya history. You'll encounter ceremonial areas containing ancient pottery, artifacts, altars, and human remains, many of which have remained in place for centuries. Your guide will explain the spiritual importance of caves to the ancient Maya and the rituals and ceremonies believed to have taken place within this sacred environment.Eventually, you'll reach the cave's famous archaeological chambers, where some of ATM's most remarkable discoveries can be seen, including calcified human remains and ceremonial artifacts.

After exploring the cave, you'll make your way back through the underground passages, exit into the jungle, and hike back to complete an adventure unlike any other in Belize.

ATM combines adventure, archaeology, Maya history, and the natural beauty of Belize's rainforest into one unforgettable experience.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW

This is a physically active tour involving hiking, river crossings, swimming, wading, climbing, and navigating through confined areas of the cave.

Guests should be reasonably fit and comfortable in and around water. Swimming ability is beneficial. This tour may not be suitable for guests who experience claustrophobia or who have mobility limitations.

Socks are mandatory for entering and walking within designated archaeological areas of the cave.
