Your day begins with a guided exploration of one of Belize's most impressive ancient Maya sites, followed by lunch and an afternoon surrounded by the natural beauty of the Mountain Pine Ridge area.

XUNANTUNICH MAYA TEMPLE

Our first stop is Xunantunich, located in the beautiful village of San Jose Succotz, just a short drive from San Ignacio.

Getting there is part of the experience! We'll cross the Mopan River aboard a traditional hand-cranked ferry before making our way up to the archaeological reserve.

Explore impressive plazas, temples, palaces, and other ancient structures as your professional guide shares the fascinating history, architecture, and culture of the Maya civilization.The highlight of Xunantunich is El Castillo, rising approximately 130 feet above the main plaza. Guests who choose to climb to the upper levels are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, Maya Mountains, and across toward neighboring Guatemala.

The surrounding tropical forest is also home to a variety of wildlife, including howler monkeys, spider monkeys, iguanas, and tropical birds, so keep your eyes open as you explore.

After our visit to Xunantunich, we'll break for a delicious lunch before continuing into the Mountain Pine Ridge area.

BIG ROCK FALLS

Our afternoon takes us to the spectacular Big Rock Falls, where water cascades dramatically over massive granite rocks into a beautiful natural pool below.

We access Big Rock Falls through the privately owned San Miguel Camp Grounds, which provides restroom facilities and designated picnic areas for added comfort and convenience during your visit.

From the camp grounds, we'll make our way down to the waterfall, where you can take a refreshing swim, enjoy the incredible scenery, or simply relax beside the water and take in the peaceful surroundings.

Please note that accessing the waterfall involves walking down a series of steps and uneven terrain, followed by the climb back up. Comfortable footwear is recommended.Combining the fascinating history and towering temples of Xunantunich with the refreshing waters and natural beauty of Big Rock Falls, this full-day tour gives you the opportunity to experience two very different sides of western Belize in one unforgettable day.
